The Roots of Baccarat

Baccarat has an image of class and sophistication which is further enhance by James Bond, surrounded by beautiful girls as he plays the game with some pile of chips. But in reality, baccarat is a very easy game to understand and play.

To keep the game from the reach of ordinary players, casinos puts baccarat tables in a separate area of the casino that are secured by velvet ropes. The dealers are generally dressed in tuxedos. What makes baccarat attractive to gamblers? Only a baccarat player can answer that question.

Some players say they love the rules in the game, others say that they love the game because of the small casino edge or attracted to the aura of mystery surrounding baccarat. It is widely accepted that baccarat came from Italy and was introduced in France during King Charles VIII's time.

Baccarat means zero and was originally played using a Tarot deck. Baccarat was very popular with the upper crust of society in France and eventually changed into Chemin de Fer, a type of baccarat that is still played until now. The game was then introduced in England, where it was further modified into European Baccarat. Afterwards, it spread to South America and eventually reached the shores of Cuba.

Baccarat was first introduce to America from the casino facilities in Cuba and was eventually introduced in Las Vegas in the 1950's. The game was further promoted in Las Vegas due to Frank Sinatra, who was the co-owner of Sands Casino at that time.

At first, baccarat catered to high-rollers. U.S. casinos began offering mini-baccarat with lower odds and played using blackjack tables. The baccarat table has three places where players can place their wager.

These three bets are the player, banker and tie. If the player wager on the player hand, they will lose if the banker hand wins and vice versa. Same with the tie hand.

A total of nine is the biggest score that a player can have. A pair of face cards would have a total of zero and a nine and six card would not have an equal 15 but five, the player have to drop the first number.

A nine and ace card has an equal of zero with the ace card having a total of one. Only the pair of cards is given to the players and on some instances three cards. The hand that has the closest total to nine or nine wins the wager.

Players betting on the tie wager will win when both hands of the player are equal. There are three types of baccarat: The Chemin de Fer, the Banque and the Punto Banco.

The mini-baccarat version is becoming very popular because of the lower bet. It is the same as the Punto Banco but is played in a table like the blackjack table. The game is popular with players because it is played at a fast pace.
